Description
The Power Grid Control Systems Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and continuous development of the site’s power grid control and remote-control systems, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the electrical power supply and communication systems. The role includes fault analysis, system parameterization, modernization projects, and the integration of new technologies. In addition, the position supports the day-to-day maintenance, inspection, testing, and repair of the site’s electrical power installations to ensure reliable plant operation.
Responsibilities and accountability
Requirements and expertise
- Operate, maintain, and continuously improve Sprecher and Siemens power grid control systems
- Configure data points, alarm structures, and automation sequences
- Perform fault analysis and troubleshooting within control room and power grid operations
- Analyze power quality and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements
- Perform switching operations affecting the electrical network up to 110 kV
- Maintain and support communication networks, fiber optic (FO) systems, and fieldbus/substation bus communication systems
- Document all system and equipment modifications
- Coordinate and supervise external contractors, including establishing safe work areas as the Person Responsible for Electrical Installations
- Perform maintenance, inspection, and servicing of electrical power equipment, including transformers, high-, medium-, and low-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, cable systems, and protection relays
- Carry out DGUV V3 inspections and other legally required periodic electrical inspections
- Perform repairs and troubleshoot electrical power systems
Personal skills
Education
- Certified Master Electrician (German Meister qualification), State-Certified Electrical Engineering Technician, or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
Work experience
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in an industrial power supply environment
- Experience in configuring power grid control system components
- Experience with data networks, fiber optic communication, and industrial bus protocols
- Knowledge of relevant VDE standards (e.g. VDE 0100, VDE 0105-100, VDE 0165)
- Knowledge of power quality analysis
- Experience in the maintenance of electrical power systems
